This photo shows Laguna Salada before the golf course was created. A dump truck is in the photo, apparently filling-in some of the wetlands surrounding the lagoon. The lagoon is surrounded by emergent cattail vegetation. This type of vegetation is only associated with salinity levels low enough for amphibians to survive; i.e., the presence of these plants indicates that the salinity levels were low, allowing frogs and snakes to thrive on the site.
